Day 15
Aug. 16th, 2010
Wordless Journals?
Yes....wordless...it's not that words are not in the journal...because for some, words are art...like poets, novelists, english majors and the like....I think of words as Art....and if you are good at visualizing then words can REALLY bring a thought, idea or description to life...even one or two words will do it....
This is my "Hanging" Journal...it has two words...."Hope is....."
What my "Hanging" journal says is ....My Life is Filled, with Promise, Joy and Abundance....
It represents FREEDOM....to me
How did my "Hanging" journal evolve you asked? Well it all started early in the morning after I had shuffled across the kitchen to get my "Ahbuboo" coffee (see day 2 of my blog) and plopped down across the dinning table in front of my daughter-in-law and saw she was futzing around with stuff....I saw little wooden birds....and I said, "I want to make something with birds?" She said, "You dooo?"....shaking my head yes, she pushed the birds toward me and I picked one...then while I sat there staring at the bird, she pushed a canvas toward me....NOW we're getting somewhere...then as I contemplated the objects before me, I looked to my right and saw a BAG of RIBBONS...Yea! and from that bag I pulled a miniature string of pearls or puuurls...whatever....and my artistic journey began....That's the story anyway.
So Yes, Ms. Call's topic today was about wordless journals...not that there can't be any "Words" in them...just nothing written by thy own hand...I took that challenge, to express what I'm feeling without writing anything on it....I did use two simple yet powerful...well powerful to me anyway...words....Hope is...I cut them out of a scrapbooking page...and yes I cut them out of just about the middle...the paper I used is by "K & Company", the little wooden bird was one in a collection by "KaiserCraft", I also used a tag from "Graphic 45's" vintage wedding line....I sprayed all the flowers with "Glimmer Mist" and made the leaves myself using the flowers and "Glimmer Mist" AND the little bird has been "worked over" with "Glimmer Mist"...the button is one from my vintage button collections, it's from the late 1960's...the rest of the items I used were found or "Ephemera" pieces.
Barbara Call explains that it's not about the type of journal....it could be an old paperback, a notebook or just some pieces of paper stapled together...in my case it was a canvas... She encourages us to put in it...(or on it)...ANYTHING we want...a swatch of pretty fabric, buttons, pieces of color paper, old or new photos, ideas, pictures of our art work or the art work of other artists....Whatever we want....
She suggests that we consider the journal as a ".....collection of items, a place to store whatever it is that awakens your creative spirit"... (page 21, Day 15, Crafter's Devotional, Barbara R. Call)
Whatever.....it is.....that awakens....your creative spirit....
I like the way that sounds....it feels....infinite....mmmmm
Blessings & Joy, Alexia
